OCTRU Seminar on Adaptive Trial Designs - Jonathan Cook

Details:

Jonathan Cook gave a brief overview of alternative trial designs at the OCTRU Seminar on 9th June 2014. He started by explaining the standard design of a two-arm parallel group individually randomised trial and then briefly provided background and examples of multi-arm trials, a simple extension but with added complexity; factorial trials where two questions can be answered if there is no interaction between the interventions; cluster trials, where groups rather than patients are randomised; cross-over trial, where participants receive both interventions with the order randomised; and adaptive trials, where the adaption can be in many different formats, but will include prespecified rules with later stages being dependent on the of earlier stages.
