CPRD - Clinical Practice Research DataLink - a very useful resource

Details:

I attended a seminar this week given by Dr Antonis Kousoulis, Academic Liaison from CPRD. The Clinical Practice Research Datalink is a dedicated multi-disciplinary team based at the Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in London. CPRD is a joint venture between the MHRA and NHS NIHR. CPRD takes on all the original work of GPRD and the NIHR Research Capability Programme, Pilots. The mission of CPRD:
“To maximise the health gain that can be achieved through the use of anonymised linked NHS data in research studies and help improve the way clinical trials of innovative medicines can be undertaken.
*To gain funding for research projects that increase the wealth of the UK as a whole.

A useful fact that was imparted is that researchers can apply free of charge for help with finding out the number of patients with condition x, on drug y, with lab test result z to be used in a grant application to help with recruitment modelling. Publication outside of a grant application would attract a cost to be paid.
